At Reach Education Action Programme (REAP), we are committed to providing holistic education that equips children with essential skills for the modern world. Our Computer and Spoken English courses are designed to bridge the digital and communication gaps for children in slum areas, empowering them to succeed in a rapidly evolving global environment.
In the age of science and technology it is important to develop technology expertise, to succeed in formal education and beyond. For this purpose, we started computer training in five of our STEM Learning Centres to provide them the knowledge of computer fundamentals. We conduct two hours of computer classes in a week for all the students enrolled in our Centres. They get a lot of time to practice in computers and start using it for their studies. The computer education programme covers their functions, operations, and related software programs. Computer education is essential for school children as it gives them the skills they need to think critically and solve problems as well as preparing them for a digital future. We introduced a 2-months ‘Basic Computer Course’ having 2-hours class every day in 3-our Centres i.e. Shivaji Nagar, Bhaskar Nagar and Waghoba Nagar. Basic computer course covers the most common usages of a computer, understanding the basic notions of computer manipulation; managing computer files, word processing, typing, using spreadsheets and databases (Excel); creating presentations (PPT); finding information and communicating (Internet and e mail). About 105 students got enrolled in the basic computer course, out of which 78 students completed the course successfully and were awarded certificates. The interest and performance of the students was found be quite good.
